SEATTLE — One of the nation’s top weather forecasters is predicting the strongest La Nina event in the Northwest in more than half a century — a weather pattern likely to produce a colder, wetter winter this year.Ed O’Lenic, chief forecaster for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center near Washington, D.C., said the La Nina weather pattern is forming in the Pacific that could be the strongest since 1955.
