Today, City University of Seattle named its new President, Richard Carter. President Carter is the sixth President of City University of Seattle and will assume this position on July 1, 2013. As President, Richard Carter will oversee CityU’s 60+ programs and 30+ sites in 12 countries.
According to President Carter, “I am honored to be named President of such a distinguished academic institution as City University of Seattle. For 40 years, CityU has been committed to improving the lives of its unique student population. We will remain true to that vision as we continue to offer a quality academic experience that meets the needs of our students both in the Great Northwest and across the globe.”
Prior to joining CityU, Richard served in a variety of executive capacities for National University System, which CityU is now a member. Most recently, Richard served the dual role of Vice Chancellor, Business Operations for the National University System and Executive Vice President of Business and Regional Operations for National University. In these roles, he led National’s Regional Operations in its efforts related to recruitment, enrollment, outreach, community relationships and retention. He also provided leadership in the areas of finance, human resources, facilities, and financial aid. Preceding his work at National, Richard led an extensive career as the chief executive at San Diego-based Titan Corporation, where he turned around the operation and sold it to Datron Advanced Technologies-Mobile Electronics Division. In addition, Richard was a chief executive at Radiac, Inc.; Signet Armorlite, Inc.; and Richardson Vicks, Inc. In each of these companies, Richard was able to help the organizations achieve the efficiencies and success they needed to prosper.
Due to Richard’s deep background and proven results in business and academics, CityU of Seattle’s Board of Trustees and National University System Board of Trustees suitably selected him as CityU’s next President.
According to National University System’s Chancellor, Dr. Lee, “Mr. Carter has been an integral part of the growth and success of National University and the National University System over the years, and we expect a seamless transition as he leads City University of Seattle as it begins its affiliation with the System. We are fortunate and excited to have someone with Mr. Carter’s experience and knowledge available to lead CityU during this important time.”
