Belltown to Host 2nd Public EPA Hearing at Bell Harbor International Conference Center

Bell Harbor International Conference Center, on Pier 66, will host the second of two Environmental Protection Agency hearings, on Thursday, May 21, 2009.  The public hearing, entitled “Endangerment and Cause or Contribute Findings for Greenhouse Gases under the Clean Air Act” will take place from 9:00 a.m.- 8:00 p.m.

The Seattle hearing is the second and last public hearing on this matter, the first was held in May 18 in Arlington, VA.  The hearing comes after the April 15, 2009 EPA release of findings that greenhouse gases pose a threat to human health and welfare.  The findings specified six greenhouses gases – carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and sulfur hexafluoride – as the potential culprits.

Approximately 200 people, including Governor Christine Gregoire, are scheduled to give testimony.  Pre-Registration was initially available for those that wanted to give a three minute testimony.  All spaces are now filled, however there may be more available for the after hour session.

Outside the hearing, a rally to support climate, green jobs, healthy communities is set to kick off at Noon.  The rally is sponsored by Climate Solutions and organizers expect approximately 1500 people to attend.

If you are not able to attend the rally and would still like to submit comments, written/emailed comments are accepted through June 23, 2009.  Also, the EPA will be streaming the meeting live.
