Belltown Beer && Code Meet-up Tomorrow

1/12/11 Belltown Pub @7PM

Some neighborhood folks are talking about forming a low-commitment social event focused around programming and coding. It’s not language or domain specific. It’s not about money or startups. It’s just people that like to code and wish they could spend more time meeting people who also enjoy socializing and talking about code. We also intend to get some work done, or just branch off and enjoy a beer if that’s what ends up happening.

The original post is here:

The idea comes from here:

PROPOSED LOCATION AND TIME: Belltown Pub near 1st and Battery. Time: 7 pm on Wednesdays

  • Free Wifi
  • Talked to the owner, and he’s down with the idea. A group from Real Networks already does something like this on a different day
  • Free pool and shuffleboard upstairs
  • Seating is arranged well for this kind of thing
  • I saw a few power outlets
  • Usual pub fare and happy hour deals
  • Starbucks next door if you prefer going to Starbucks?

I already have plans for tomorrow night but something like this could be a lot of fun.

  2. The guy who runs this thing does it weekly – so be sure to check back in and we’ll keep posting em!

  3. I have to admit I’m not that ambitious and we only meet every 2 weeks.

I am trying to figure out better ways to advertise Beer && Code, so I’ll try to post here the next time as a reminder.

    Everyone’s doing it!

Ok, I’m only half kidding. Would it be appropriate to just use belltownpeople to do the promotion? Seems standalone enough that it could be a little posterous site or something low maint.

Is everyone aware of a) Hops and Chops and b) Seattle Tech Startups?

I thought about making a blog. At first it was just an experiment to see if the idea would take off. It seems like it has so I suppose I could make a blog. The thing is that there really isn’t much blog-worthy content. I’d probably opt for a static, one-page site that just says what it is and perhaps a link to a calendar. Maybe that’s a project for Beer && Coders.

Yes, and yes. I did my research before starting up. Hops and Chops is more for entrepreneurs and those frothing at the mouth with big ideas. Beer && Code is more laid back. We just love programming and socializing with other people who love programming. Some people may band around projects, but it’s mostly a social event.
