This Friday thru Sunday on the mile and half of Seattle Waterfront that are the Olympic Sculpture, Myrtle Edwards, and Centennial parks will be host to the 23rd Annual Seattle Hempfest. The event includes six stages of music and renowned speakers, and a “Hemposium” for panel discussions, presentations, keynote speakers, and more. Between the stages will be hundreds of booths with arts, crafts, and food among other things. This year’s event is calling for an end to the Schedule 1 designation of marijuana under the ‘Controlled Substance Act‘
“When Washington voters enacted I-502, they decriminalized cannabis possession and consumption in Washington State,” said Hempfest Executive Director Vivian McPeak. “It became legal on the state level to possess up to one ounce of usable cannabis. However, I-502 only legalized consuming cannabis out of public view. It is not legal to smoke pot walking down a public street, at a bus stop, or in a public park.
Also new this year you will see two 21+ only lounges; ‘Liberty Lounge Cannabis Garden’ and ‘Winterlife Lounge’. At these two lounges anyone over the age of 21, who show valid ID, can consume marijuana without receiving a citation from SPD.
