Belltown Books ala Cart Soon to Roll Around Downtown
Belltown Books ala Cart is a Little Free Library with a twist: rather than staying in one place, the ala Cart project is two mobile bookshelves, which will be popping up all over Belltown.
Designed to foster a love of reading, the “take a book/leave a book” model allows community members to help themselves to a kid’s book, a young adult novel, the latest best seller or a classic sci fi thriller – all for free! This project came together through community volunteers and a grant from the City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods.
There are a variety of activities planned to gather books and celebrate the ala Cart project:
Thursday, April 28, 6 to 8 p.m., Moda Apartments, 2312 Third Avenue. http://www.equityapartments.com/seattle/belltown/moda-apartments
Complimentary appetizers, sweets, wine and other beverages (supplied by Savior Fork Pies and the Belltown Collective) will be served at this family-friendly event. Your book donation (or cash contribution) enters into a drawing to win a gift bag featuring 12 autographed books by members of the Seattle 7 Writers’ Group, including Daniel James Brown, Carol Cassell, Garth Stein, and Rebecca Wells. http://www.seattle7writers.org/
Sunday, May 1, 3 to 5 p.m., the Innkeeper, 2510 First Avenue. http://innkeeperseattle.com/ Complimentary chips, salsa and guacamole and a no-host bar are being provided for guests 21 and over. Stop by and drop off your donations and learn more about how you can get involved.
Friday, May 13, 6 to 8 p.m., Belltown Community Center, 415 Bell Street. http://www.seattle.gov/parks/centers/belltown.htm
In conjunction with the Belltown Art Walk, http://www.belltownartwalk.com/
It’s the official launch of Belltown Books ala Cart! The carts will be making their first public appearance, so stop by for complimentary snacks and drinks, grab a book, and be entertained by Seattle 7 Writers’ Group member and New York Times best Selling Author Kevin O’Brien http://www.kevinobrienbooks.com/
O’Brien will be speaking on reading, writing and the fine art of murder. He will also be providing some copies of his latest thriller as door prizes for the event.
